In an American context, the Ford F-150 has a safety feature known as the fuel cut-off switch. On older models, this red button can be found under the driver's side of the dashboard, whereas newer models have a module located near the rear of the truck frame by the spare tire. This switch is designed to stop the fuel pump in case of a collision, preventing potential fires by cutting off fuel flow to the engine. Sensors are in place to detect abrupt stops that could indicate a crash, triggering the shut-off mechanism. To restart the engine, the cut-off button simply needs to be reset.

Should the button be pushed down to activate power or should it be pushed up to supply power to the fuel pump?

The inertia switch is situated under the passenger side door near the kick plate where the fuse panel is. It is positioned right behind that, close to the fender, with a small plunger on the top. By pressing down on the plunger, you can check if it has been activated or not. If it has been tripped, pushing it down will reset it. Use a flashlight to locate it just past the fuse box next to the fender.

If you're a Ford owner or enthusiast, consider those who prefer DIY instead of overpaying for non-existent buttons or reset switches. It's frustrating when you're told it's in six different spots when it's actually nowhere to be found.
