The control unit for Your Volkswagen Touareg's immobilizer and keyless entry system, known as the Kessy unit, can be found in the driver's side footwell of the vehicle. Positioned above the accelerator pedal near the power distribution block, this component is a flat black plastic piece slightly larger but thinner than the average wallet. It is recognizable by the two wiring harnesses that connect directly to it. Replacing the unit is a straightforward task, even for those with limited automotive experience. However, the price tag may come as a shock - a new unit could run you anywhere from $500 to $600, while remanufactured units are still priced over $350.
