The BMW E60's Gateway Control Module, also known as the "KGM," is part of the system located in the rack positioned behind the glove compartment on the passenger side. Linked to a wiring harness through two 51-pin connectors, the KGM is custom-configured for the vehicle to manage functions such as the front doors, power windows, mirrors, central locking system, and entrance lights. It also interfaces with the BMW's MPM to oversee the iDrive, navigation screen, door alerts, and audio system, among other features. A malfunctioning KGM can lead to the iDrive not functioning, navigation screen being inactive, and significant battery drainage in the vehicle. Replacing the Gateway Control Module typically costs around $300 for parts alone.
