In a 2007 Chevy Impala, the neutral safety switch, located on the driver's side of the transmission where the shift linkage connects, requires a 13mm socket and a 15mm socket for maintenance. This safety feature ensures the engine can only start when the automatic transmission is set to Park or Neutral, preventing the vehicle from unexpectedly moving forward if started in gear. If your neutral safety switch experiences significant electrical issues, your engine will not turn over in Park or Neutral. The starter relay depends on the switch to receive power, and without it, the starter motor cannot crank the engine.
How to repair it
There's a button located below the gear shifter that enables you to shift the vehicle into gear even when the keys are not inside the vehicle.
The 2007 Chevy Impala's neutral safety switch is located on either side of the gear shift handle or near the base of it, down low.
