Changing the oil filter on the Toyota Highlander can be a bit tricky, as you'll have to remove a plastic trim piece located behind the bumper to access it. This extra step, although relatively simple as the trim piece is held in place with clips, sets it apart from most other vehicles. Once you have removed the plastic panel, you will find the oil filter situated partway up and near the center of the engine bay from the bottom. It's essential to replace the oil filter whenever you change the oil, recommended every 3,000 miles with conventional oil or around 5,000 miles with synthetic.
