The 2009 Hyundai Sonata is equipped with two different oxygen sensors: one known as the upstream oxygen sensor and the other as the downstream oxygen sensor. Each sensor serves a specific purpose, so it is important to identify which one you need to remove or replace. The upstream O2 sensor is situated on the exhaust manifold, which you can locate by tracing your exhaust pipe towards the front of the vehicle. The downstream sensor is threaded into the tailpipe immediately following the catalytic converter. To remove or replace these sensors, you will need to lift the vehicle using a jack and place it on jack stands, exerting a significant amount of force. Due to the high operating temperatures of the exhaust system, the '09 model's sensors may be firmly secured in place.
