In 2005, the O2 sensors of the Ford Freestyle are located on both sides of the front and rear of the exhaust manifold for the driver and passenger. There are two sensors, and they play a crucial role in a vehicle's emissions and ignition systems by keeping track of the amount of unburned oxygen coming out of the exhaust pipes. This data is transmitted to the car's main computer, or ECU, to adjust the air/fuel mixture in the engine. A functioning O2 sensor helps maintain optimal fuel efficiency and ignition. However, if the sensors begin to fail, they can give inaccurate readings, leading the car to run either too rich or too lean, which can cause rough idling, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential misfires.
