If the PCV valve in a 2002 Honda CR-V fails, it can lead to oil leaks or unusual noises like whistling or moaning while the engine is running. The PCV valve is crucial for the vehicle's emissions system and can be found under the hood in the engine bay, positioned above the alternator and below the power steering pump. You can easily spot the small hose connected to it by the clamp that secures it in place. Getting this component professionally replaced typically costs between $65 and $75 for both the parts and labor. Signs that there may be an issue with the PCV valve include engine surging, black exhaust smoke, the accumulation of sludge and moisture inside the engine, as well as leaks in oil seals and gaskets. These problems are commonly accompanied by misfires, difficulty starting the engine, and a rough idling sensation.

It's not situated on the firewall, which doesn't make any sense. You can find the Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve on the engine block. If you are standing in front of the car, it will be on the left side of the intake manifold and on the right side of the alternator, down low. You'll notice a lengthy rubber hose connected to it, running along the front part of the engine bay.
