The EVAP canister, also called the purge valve, of the 2016 GMC Acadia sits above the back of the muffler. This canister holds around 1-2 pounds of activated charcoal that acts as a sponge to soak up and retain fuel vapors. When the purge valve opens, the engine's vacuum draws the fuel vapors from the charcoal into the engine intake manifold. If the EVAP canister purge valve is failing, along with a rough idle, the vehicle will exhibit symptoms of poor engine performance. The engine may experience a lack of power, feeling weak and unable to accelerate properly. Pressing the gas pedal may result in slower movement than expected.
