The 2007 Kia Spectra's speed sensor is located in or near the transmission. This sensor measures the output of the transmission or wheel speed. The information from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is used by the ECM to adjust various engine functions like ignition timing, air/fuel ratio, transmission shift points, and to run diagnostic tests. Your car's engine speed sensor, also known as the vehicle speed sensor, provides data to the car's computer on how fast the engine is spinning by monitoring the speed of the crankshaft. While technically feasible to drive without a working vehicle speed sensor, it is highly discouraged. A faulty VSS can negatively affect different aspects of the vehicle's operation, so it's best to replace a defective speed sensor as soon as possible.
