The speed sensor in the 2008 Chevy Cobalt is an important component that keeps track of how fast the car is traveling and sends that info to the main computer, known as the ECU. The ECU then controls when the gears shift in the transmission. You should locate the sensor at the back of the transmission on the passenger side, near the firewall. You can access it from above or below the engine bay, above the right drive axle. If the speed sensor is not functioning properly, you may experience rough gear shifts, jerky movements while driving, or a speedometer showing zero. Replacing this part will cost around $200 to $250, including both the materials and labor.
