In the 2015 Nissan Altima, there are two types of speed sensors. One is the transmission speed sensor, located on the tail shaft of the transmission to monitor its speed. It sends a signal to the computer to shift gears based on the shaft's speed. The other type is the wheel speed sensor, which is part of the ABS system. This sensor monitors the speed of each wheel, and the computer adjusts the speed to prevent any wheel from losing traction if it spins faster or slower than the others.

The 2015 Nissan Altima's speed sensor can be found on the right rear side of the transmission, close to the tail shaft, underneath the car's hood.

In the transmission, there are three speed sensors: the input speed sensor, the output speed sensor, and the vehicle speed sensor. These sensors are used by the transmission controller (TCM), ABS module, and PCM to carry out their functions. The vehicle speed sensor, positioned near the left axle under the air box, measures the final output speed and the speed of the vehicle, relaying this information to the instrument panel. The input speed sensor, located behind the starter, monitors the speed of the input shaft from the engine to the torque converter. Finally, the secondary speed sensor, situated on the front left side of the engine above the transmission pan, calculates the torque converter output speed and the input speed to the CVT, aiding in determining when to engage the torque converter clutch lock up and CVT input/output ratio. These sensors may appear differently in scan tools but are generally labeled as input speed sensor, secondary speed sensor, and primary speed sensor. The OSS corresponds to the crankshaft speed, functioning as the RPM signal and crank position sensor (CKP). Additional backup RPM signals are available from sensors like the camshaft position sensor (CMP). When replacing a CVT, it is essential to ensure correct alignment of the three sensors to prevent error codes and avoid limp mode activation.
