The speed sensor on the 2005 Nissan Altima can be found on the transmission, on the driver's side, slightly behind the motor near the firewall. To replace it, reach down and unscrew it; it's about elbow deep. It's recommended to use aftermarket sensors like Duralast, available at AutoZone for around $30, as Nissan stopped producing them due to defects. The ones now sold at parts stores have a metal casing and are more reliable than the original OEM sensors.
