On a 2012 Ford Explorer, the starter is located on the driver's side of the engine, positioned between the engine and the battery. To start, use a 10-millimeter socket on a ratchet to detach the negative battery terminal as a safety precaution to avoid any electrical mishaps. It is crucial not to touch any part of the vehicle when removing a positive terminal to prevent a possible short in the electrical system. Following this, eliminate the air filter housing and then disconnect the 12-volt wire that is attached to the starter and ignition wire from the battery. These connections must be undone to allow the starter to be removed. Finally, there are two bolts on each side of the starter that must be unscrewed to properly extract the starter.
