Your 2004 Dodge Ram 1500's coolant temperature sensor is crucial for monitoring the engine coolant. If it malfunctions, it can impact the timing and performance of your vehicle. In most Ram trucks, you can locate the ECT at the front of the intake manifold, specifically for the 3.7L V-6 and the 4.7L V-8 engines. For the 5.7L V-8 engine, the ECT is positioned on the front of the engine block. The 5.9L Diesel and the 5.9L V-8 Gas models have their ECT near the thermostat housing. This sensor appears as a compact 3-inch metal cylinder with one threaded end. Signs that it requires replacement include rough idling, decreased fuel efficiency, engine overheating, and the "check engine" light coming on.
