To begin the process of attaching jumper cables to a Ford Escape, start by finding the hood release lever located on the left side of the driver's cabin beneath the steering wheel. Pull the yellow hood release latch to the right to open the hood, and use the prop rod to keep it in place. Remove the battery cover located near the firewall, beneath the window. Connect the red jumper cable to the positive battery terminal and the black cable to the nut on the end of the black cable to the right of the battery. Ensure that the connections are secure and have good contact.

To give a Ford Escape a jump start, attach the red and black cables' positive and negative ends to the corresponding terminals on the assisting vehicle while it is running. Then, connect the red cable to the red terminal on the dead car's battery and the black cable to an unpainted area - not the black terminal on the battery, before starting the stalled vehicle.

Like all cars involved in jump-starting, the jumper cables should be connected directly to the battery terminals. On the vehicle used to jump, attach the red clamp to the positive post and the black clamp to a grounded metal surface. Be cautious as the vehicle being jump-started can send a surge of current when it starts, potentially damaging the alternator if the black clamp is on the battery post. Thankfully, the vehicle being jump-started will not be harmed in either scenario.

To prepare the 2011 Escape, remove the plastic cover from the battery situated on the driver's side under the hood. Connect the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on the battery. Remember, it's crucial not to mix them up!
