The Honda CR-V can be towed flat at speeds up to 65 mph with all four wheels on the ground to prevent harm to the 4WD system. It is important to use a sturdy metal tow bar, never opt for a rope or tow strap. Before towing, start the engine, press the brake, cycle through all gears, shift into drive, then neutral. Let the engine run for three minutes, then turn it off. Switch the ignition to the accessory position to prevent the steering wheel from locking, leave the key in, release the parking brake, and turn off the radio and other accessories to avoid draining the battery.

Hi, this is Kathy from Honda. Can you tell me if the 2021 Hybrid CRV will be able to be flat towed? The Ford Escape hybrid plug-in is able to be, and a loyal Honda enthusiast is finding it challenging to switch because of that.

Honda CR-Vs from 2014 and earlier can be towed using the flat towing method if the correct steps are followed. However, starting from 2015, CR-Vs cannot be flat towed anymore because of a powertrain redesign that includes a "CVT" transmission.

It is not possible to tow a newer Honda CRV with all four wheels on the ground. Some people have incorrect information on this. As someone who sells Honda cars and works at a dealership, I can clarify that 2014 was the final year for the CRV with a 6-speed transmission, and from 2015 onwards, they switched to a CVT. If you are looking for a newer Honda that can be flat towed, consider a Honda Fit with a manual transmission. However, the 2020 model year is the last for the Honda Fit, so you should make your decision quickly before it is discontinued.

I just found out from the nearby dealership that you can't flat tow the 2020 model. It seems only specific years are suitable for flat towing.

When driving at legal highway speeds of up to 65 mph (100 km/h), it is safe to tow the CR-V behind a motorhome. It's important not to exceed 65 mph (100 km/h) to avoid causing damage to the transmission. The CR-V should be towed with all four wheels on the ground (flat towing) to protect the 4wd system from harm.

In the manual for my 2020 CRV, it states that the vehicle is not meant to be towed by a motor home. If towing is necessary in an emergency, consult the emergency towing guidelines on page 640.
