As you're heading over to your Ford Explorer and press the unlock button on your key fob, you realize that nothing is happening. There could be a couple of reasons for this issue. One possibility is that you might be out of range for the computer to pick up your signal. However, the more likely reason is that the battery in your key fob has died. If that's the case, all you have to do is replace the battery, which can be found at most retail stores or automotive parts shops. You'll need a CR2032 battery, which typically costs between $3 and $9. To replace the battery, simply open the fob and use a flathead screwdriver.

We recently faced the same issue at a gas station. After managing to start the vehicle and driving away, the key was still not being recognized. It seems that once we got far enough from the gas station, the signal interference stopped and the key was finally detected. We had already checked the battery and key fob. Ford roadside assistance wasn't helpful; they only wanted to tow the vehicle.

The signal in a Ford Explorer indicating "no key detected" typically indicates that the key fob's battery has run out of power.

I discovered that certain gas stations use equipment that operates on the same frequency as the Ford key fob, which interferes with the signal needed to unlock the car's computer and start the engine. This issue occurred four times at one particular station until we identified the problem. In order for me to start the car and drive away, the station had to deactivate their advertising board.

I'm happy I came across this post. I experienced a similar situation at the gas station where I turned off the store board, and my car started miraculously!

There's a slot in the front of the center console where you can insert your key fob to start the car and drive you home.
