The most common reason why a key fob for the Ford C-Max stops working is usually due to a dead 3V battery. To resolve this issue, you can replace the old CR2032 lithium coin cell battery with a new one. If you have already changed the battery and are still experiencing issues with the remote, it may need to be reprogrammed. To do this, insert the key into the ignition without turning it on. Use the driver's door lock to lock and unlock the vehicle, initiating a 10-minute timer. Within this time frame, you will need to program all key fobs, or else you will need to restart the process. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position without starting the engine, then back to OFF. Repeat this step seven times, and the door locks should cycle. Press the unlock button on the key fob, and the vehicle's locks should respond to confirm that the programming has been saved. If it doesn't work, you will have to repeat the process from the beginning.

The primary problems with the Ford S max and its remote key are the key fob's battery dying and the key fob losing connection with the car.

I'm not certain of the specific S max, but I own a 2013 Ford C-Max Energi, which is a plug-in. My primary remote stopped working after I changed the battery and only worked for a short while, maybe three months, before malfunctioning again. Upon closer examination, I discovered a small crack in the remote button that was allowing sweat and dirt inside. When I removed the board and held it up to a light, I noticed wet spots and discoloration. I decided to purchase a cheap replacement remote online and had it programmed by a trusted locksmith for $50. However, in the meantime, my car was exhibiting odd behavior due to the broken remote programming the car as the master. This meant that when I used my husband's key, I was limited to a speed of around 65 mph and couldn't adjust my music or phone volume properly since I am partially deaf. It was quite frustrating. To temporarily resolve the issue, I placed the broken remote near the steering wheel as demonstrated in the instructions and used the steering wheel buttons to turn off the key. While it may take a few attempts, this method successfully addressed the problem until I received the new remote.
