The Mazda CX-9 has a sketchy track record with AWD issues, mainly due to problems with the transfer case that transfers power from the engine to the wheels. While Mazda extended the factory warranty for the CX-9 because of this, they didn't issue a complete recall. Continuing to drive, even in front-wheel drive only, could damage the transmission, potentially costing more to fix than the vehicle is valued at.
