The primary cause of the backup camera malfunction in the 2015 Ford Taurus is often due to a blown fuse or a loose wire harness. Another factor that can lead to the camera not working is a weak or low battery failing to supply enough power for the camera to operate correctly. If the battery is low, it is recommended to go on a long drive to recharge it adequately, which should resolve the camera issue. While it is generally safe to drive the vehicle without the parking assist camera working, if you heavily rely on the camera for parking, it is wise to have it fixed promptly. Replacing the backup camera in this car typically costs between $550 and $650.
Owners of the 2015 Ford Taurus might notice issues with their backup camera, such as a sudden loss of the picture. One possible solution is to investigate the wiring and try resetting the vehicle's software to fix the problem.
Today, I quickly swapped out my camera in just 5 minutes and the issue was resolved. I attempted various troubleshooting methods like software and hardware resets, resetting fuses, draining the memory by removing the battery negative, and reseating wires, but none of them worked. Finally, I bought a third-party replacement on Amazon for $72, and that did the trick! If I had gone to Ford or somewhere else, it would have easily cost me $600.
The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) price for this camera is outrageous. I highly suggest opting for an OEM camera, as they can be purchased for less than $200 on eBay. This is yet another instance of Ford trying to overcharge their customers.
