Why isn't the heated windshield on my Ford S-Max functioning?

There are two main reasons why the heated windshield of the Ford S Max might not work. Firstly, one of two fuses could blow, or there could be a fault with the heated windscreen itself. It is best to start by checking these two fuses as they can lead to cost savings. However, if the fuses fail repeatedly, it may point to a larger wiring issue since they serve as failsafes. Look for the Ford 40A cartridge fuses in the fuse panel. Fortunately, these fuses are fairly affordable and can be purchased individually or in a multipack, allowing you to have spares on hand. If the issue is indeed the fuses, the repair should cost less than ten dollars.

It appears that a common issue is causing the problem, according to various discussions on multiple online forums. The Battery Management System may not activate the heating panel if it detects an aging battery or low charge level. This is a result of a reduction in battery charging rates following a recall for environmental reasons aimed at reducing emissions. While the car functions fine overall, the BMS may prevent the front screen heating and, at times, the start/stop module from activating. Possible solutions include: 1. Resetting the BMS using different methods involving button and pedal combinations (no kidding!). This reset can prompt the BMS to start the heater panel even if it still reads the same charge percentage as before (e.g., 64%). In some cases, this may also resolve any issues with the start/stop feature. 2. Taking a longer journey (over 2 hours) to allow the car sufficient time to fully recharge the battery.

If the heated windshield in your Ford S Max isn't working, you should inspect the wiring leading to it.
