The common issue causing your 2012 Chevy Equinox's remote start to stop working is likely a dead battery in your key fob. You should buy a CR 2032 battery to replace it. To begin, remove the physical key and gently separate the key fob's two sides using a pry tool. When opened, one side will hold the battery, which you can easily replace with the new one. After replacing the battery, simply snap the two sides of the key fob back together.
