The 2010 Mercedes GL450, similar to most modern MB SUVs, is equipped with dual batteries. One battery is dedicated to the main vehicle functions, such as starting the engine, while the other powers the internal electronic systems when the engine is not in use. The primary battery is situated beneath the front passenger seat and requires sliding the seat all the way forward and removing the plastic vent cover underneath it for removal. During the first servicing, cutting through the carpet may be necessary to access the battery. The second battery is an auxiliary one located in the rear cargo area behind a plastic panel on the passenger side of the SUV. To reach this battery, the spare tire and surrounding paneling must be removed, along with the plastic runner nearest to the rear bumper.
