Let's start with the basics. ESP stands for Electronic Stability Program, while BAS stands for Brake Assist System. Both of these features enhance the safety of your 2009 Jeep Compass, but you may not interact with them regularly as they are typically only activated during emergency situations. If you notice the ESP BAS light come on, experience a lack of anti-lock brakes, or find that traction control is off, there may be an issue with the steering angle sensor. To reset this error caused by the sensor, try turning the steering wheel two times to the right, then two times to the left, and finally returning it to the center position.
ESP/BAS, or Electronic Stability Program/Brake Assist Program, are systems that work together to help keep your vehicle stable and maintain traction while driving.
