Certain Chevrolet Sonic vehicles from 2012 to 2014, equipped with the 1.4L engine, are being recalled due to a problem with engine coolant leaking from the water pump. The leakage can occur either from the weep reservoir or the water pump shaft seal. The leaked coolant could drip onto the engine or the ground, gradually reducing cooling efficiency and potentially causing the engine to overheat. Failure to address this issue may trigger the illumination of the "Service Engine" light, display an "Engine Hot, AC Off" message, sound a chime, and result in reduced engine power.

The car was losing coolant as it accelerated, so it had to be recalled.

I own a 2016 Sonic LT with a 1.4L engine. I had to replace the water pump and the plastic valve myself, costing me $840 and $125, respectively. I never received a recall notice in the mail at the time. Despite this, I still have the car with only 35,000 miles and I'm pretty upset about the situation.

Sonic's engine got too hot and lost coolant, but I refilled it and haven't had any leaks for over a week now. However, ever since then, my air conditioning has not been working. I'm wondering if the issues with the coolant and the air conditioning are linked and if the coolant pump could be the culprit.

In 2013, the Sonic experienced the same issue even after we changed the water pump. Six months later, it was leaking once more.

I own a 2016 LT with a 1.4-liter engine, and I've been experiencing the same water pump issues. I never got a recall notice in the mail for the same problems, which ended up costing me $840 for the repairs and an additional $125 for something else. You can reach me at [email protected] if you have any questions. I'm really frustrated about this situation.
