The stock radio in your 2008 Nissan Altima comes with Bluetooth functionality, but it does not support music streaming. Back in 2008, only a few vehicles could play music wirelessly due to the new and expensive nature of the technology. The Altima's head unit at that time only allowed for hands-free calling and phone book syncing. Nowadays, as wireless technology has become more affordable and widespread, you can easily add this feature to almost any vehicle at a low cost. One simple way to achieve this is by buying a separate Bluetooth receiver and connecting it to the AUX input in your center console. Alternatively, if you prefer an integrated solution, you can invest in a new head unit with built-in Bluetooth streaming capabilities to replace your stock radio.
Certain cars lack this feature. In my Nissan, I have an iPhone 7 and can use Bluetooth for calls, but the ability to play music through the car's system is only possible using the auxiliary port. External Bluetooth gadgets can be linked to the radio to stream music from your phone. Another option is to upgrade the car's head unit.
