The VTM4 acronym found on an Acura MDX refers to the Variable Torque Management 4WD System, which is responsible for regulating the torque sent to the rear wheels. What sets this system apart is its ability to independently control the torque for each rear wheel. In the event of traction loss, the system can automatically adjust the torque distribution to help you regain traction. Should your MDX display a warning light for this system, the first step is to scan your vehicle's codes to identify the issue. One common reason for this warning light is a malfunctioning EGR valve. Typically, the VTM4 light will also trigger the check engine light to illuminate simultaneously.
I have identified fault code 302 indicating a problem with cylinder number 2 not firing properly. The issue seems to be with the fuel injector not sending fuel to cylinder number 2. Additionally, the VTM4 light is on and steady. My plan is to clean the EGR hole, replace the injector, and also the EGR valve to resolve these issues. Before I start working on it, do you have any suggestions or am I heading in the right direction?
