Especially in the 2016 model year, but continuing to all models, the Kia Sportage faces some challenges with its panoramic sunroof. The main issue is often the sunroof failing to close properly, which many drivers have reported online. Another less common but still bothersome problem is the deterioration of the weather sealing around the edges. The typical suggestion to address the closing issue is to lubricate the rollers and tracks thoroughly, although this solution may not be very effective. If your Sportage is still covered by warranty, I recommend taking it to the dealership for inspection; it might be worth the expense if it's not. These issues have left experts scratching their heads, so if you're experiencing them, you might want to think about getting a replacement.
I used to have a 2017 Sportage, and boy did I have issues with it! The screen would randomly turn black, the transmission was slipping, and the AC/Heat would only work on one side. I lost count of how many times I brought it to the shop because the sunroof wouldn't close properly. It was there for at least 7-8 times, and it would take them 4-8 weeks each time to work on it. They kept trying to fix it without replacing it. I got rid of that car and will never buy another Kia again!
In 2018, my Kia Sportage has had multiple visits to the dealership due to a problem with the sunroof not closing. After numerous attempts to fix it, the latest plan is to replace the entire sunroof, which will result in the car being out of commission for a week.
The issue of a malfunctioning panoramic sunroof is a common concern among owners of the 2019 Kia Sportage.
