By introducing DEF, the "NOX" or nitrogen in the diesel fuel is turned into less harmful substances. To refill the Chevy DuRamax with DEF, you can lift the hood and find the reservoir on the passenger side of the engine bay, recognizable by a blue cap found on most vehicles.
