The 2002 Chevy 2500 HD needs about four quarts of rear differential fluid. To change it, find the drain plug at the bottom of the differential using a 3/8 inch square drive. Place a drain pan underneath, then remove the filler plug at the back with a 15mm socket, followed by the drain plug. The thick 75W-90 gear oil will take some time to drain completely. Once it slows to a drip, reattach the drain plug. Adding the fluid can be tricky, so using a hand pump for 1-quart bottles is recommended. Fill it up to the level of the fill hole.
The rear differential fluid capacity of the 2002 Chevy 2500hd ranges from 3 to 4 quarts.
