The 2019 Ford F 350 has a DEF tank capacity of 48 gallons, as stated by the manufacturer. DEF, or diesel exhaust fluid, is a liquid used in diesel engines to reduce air pollution. It is composed of a solution of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water. Using DEF is necessary for a process called selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which helps convert harmful NOx emissions from the engine into a safer mixture of nitrogen and water.

If you visit Ford's website and check out the digital owner's manual for a 2019 F350 Diesel, it will indicate that the DEF tank has a capacity of 28 liters, which is approximately equivalent to 7.396 gallons. Additionally, the manual specifies that the Super Duty truck with a 176-inch wheelbase comes with a 181.7-liter fuel tank, which is roughly 48 gallons. The manual that belongs to me states that 7.4 gallons are required.

The fuel tank holds about 48 gallons, while the DEF tank is approximately 7 gallons. When I last refilled it, I put in 6 gallons.

It seems like some people are mixing up DEF and diesel fuel, which are distinct liquids. Make sure you don't mix them up by accident. To clarify whether you need to use DEF, modern diesel engines will shut off if your DEF tank is empty, similar to running out of fuel. Most trucks can travel about 800 miles per gallon, so it shouldn't be difficult to prevent running out.

Anyone who believes that the DEF tank on a Ford Superduty holds 48 gallons clearly doesn't know their facts. While some Superduty trucks may have a 48-gallon diesel tank, the DEF tank is not the same. In a 2022 F350 crew cab with a short bed and diesel engine, the standard fuel tank size is 34 gallons. If you're not knowledgeable about the topic, it's best not to provide answers.

I can't believe some people are so foolish and refuse to simply read the owner's manual to find specifications. The person claiming it's a 48-gallon tank for DEF is clearly mistaken; that's the fuel tank size, not DEF. I own an F350 with a 48-gallon diesel tank and require about 7-8 gallons of DEF, considering the long wheel base. Everyone should just read their manuals – advice from an ASE certified mechanic.
