In a 2001 Chevy Silverado, the rear differential fluid capacity is 2 quarts. To top up the fluid, you'll have to locate the rear axle shaft and the fluid container. If you just need to add more, you can easily pour it in through the intake port. However, if you need to drain it first, you'll have to remove the cover plate. Make sure to have a bucket ready, as the oil will flow out. After the draining is complete, seal the plate and refill from the top. Removing the plate is a simple task of unscrewing a pair of bolts.
