The 2010 Lincoln MKX has a transmission fluid capacity of 9.4 quarts and it is recommended to use Motorcraft Mercon LV automatic transmission fluid. However, you can use an alternative fluid as long as it meets Ford's Mercon LV specification. It is important to check the transmission fluid level regularly, ideally once a month, as maintaining proper fluid levels is crucial for the transmission's performance. To check the transmission fluid, make sure it is warm by driving for around 20 miles or until it reaches normal operating temperature. Park on a level surface, engage the parking brake, shift through all gears with your foot on the brake pedal, allowing 10 seconds between shifts. Put the vehicle in park, pull out the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert, then check that the fluid level is within the recommended area at the bottom of the dipstick.
