The Chevrolet Camaro is exclusively equipped with rear-wheel drive, without any options for all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. When Chevrolet brought back the Camaro line, they made sure to maintain its traditional rear-wheel drive setup to stay true to its heritage. Rear-wheel drive is typically favored in sporty and high-performance vehicles as it helps to minimize torque steer while driving. While an all-wheel drive car may have an advantage in launching off the line, it can come with the downside of added weight and potential steering issues when power is distributed to the front wheels. Chevy made the correct decision in sticking with rear-wheel drive to preserve the classic, sporty feel of the Camaro.
Is all-wheel drive available on the Camaro model?
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro offers two distinct engine options. The smaller 2.0 liter engine models, such as the 1LT Turbo automatic, 2LT Turbo manual, and 1LS Turbo manual, come with rear wheel drive whether they're a coupe or convertible. On the other hand, the larger 6.2 liter engine Camaros, including the 2SS, 1SS, and ZL1 trims, are all manual transmission and also feature rear wheel drive, whether in coupe or convertible form.
I totally agree! I used to own a mustang many years back and to prevent it from sliding off the road, I had to add cinder blocks in the back. It even slid just trying to get out of my driveway. I live in the North, so I wouldn't consider purchasing another rear wheel drive vehicle.
I will always prefer front-wheel drive over rear-wheel drive, especially in the winter. That's why I wouldn't consider getting a Camaro or a Mustang, as they are rear-wheel drive vehicles.
