The Volkswagen Atlas is initially available as a front-wheel-drive vehicle, with the option for upgrades. If you choose a model equipped with a 2.0L engine, you won't be able to upgrade to all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the 3.6L models default to front-wheel drive but can be upgraded to all-wheel drive for an additional $2000. The highest-tier model, the 3.6L V6 SEL Premium, includes all-wheel drive as standard. None of the models offer four-wheel drive.
The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas features both All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and front-wheel drive options, but it doesn't have 4WD. The base trims, 2.0T S, 2.0T SE, and 2.0T SEL, come with front-wheel drive only. However, the 3.6L V6 S, 3.6L V6 Launch Edition, 3.6L V6 SE, and 3.6L V6 SEL allow you to choose between front-wheel drive and AWD. Lastly, the 3.6L V6 SEL Premium is exclusively offered with AWD.
The 2.0 Liter base model of the VW Atlas S for 2020 and 2021 does offer the choice to include the 4Motion feature for all-wheel drive.
