The 2013 Honda CR-V has a known issue with premature timing chain wear and a defective VTC actuator that needs to be changed according to a TSB from Honda. Drivers have reported high oil consumption and flickering dashboard lights when the actuator is failing. The problem is addressed in Technical Service Bulletin #16-012, but unfortunately, the actuator tends to fail before the vehicle reaches 70,000 miles. When the timing chain needs to be fixed, owners are required to cover the costs themselves, with repairs costing over $2,500. There are disagreements between Honda and owners regarding whether the chain's replacement should be covered under warranty. One customer followed the TSB and paid for the chain replacement, only to encounter the issue again at 96,000 miles.
