The 2008 Kia Optima originally came with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine, but the LX and EX models offered an upgrade to a 2.7 V6 engine. If you have the standard engine, it requires 4.5 US quarts of 5W-20 synthetic motor oil. The upgraded engine also needs 5W-20 synthetic oil, but it has a slightly larger capacity of 4.8 US quarts. Since both capacities are below 5 quarts, you can simply buy a 5-quart bottle for about $20 to $30 to perform an oil change on your own.
Kia recommends using either 5W20 or 5W30 oil for most regular temperatures in the 2008 Kia Optima, while suggesting 10W30 for temperatures below -4 F, 15W40 for temperatures above 5 F, and 20W50 for local temperatures above 14 F. The 2008 Optima comes with two engine choices: the 2.4L inline-4 and the 2.7L V6. The 2.4L engine requires 4.5 quarts of oil, whereas the 2.7L engine needs 4.8 quarts.
