When choosing motor oil for your 2002 Nissan Xterra, look for a high-quality oil with either the API certification mark or an ILSAC grade of GF-I and II. It is recommended to use an oil with a viscosity grade of 5W-30 for all temperatures. If the temperatures are above 0°F, you can also use an oil with an SAE grade of 10W-30 or 40. It's a good idea to check the oil level regularly, ideally each time you fill up with gas, but at least once a month. To check the oil level, remove the dipstick from its tube, wipe it clean with a cloth, reinsert it all the way in, then pull it out again to verify the level by ensuring it falls between the marked indicators.
The 2002 Nissan Xterra requires fully synthetic motor oil with a viscosity grade of SAE 5W-30.
