In the 2018 Kia Soul, the 1.6L four-cylinder engine requires 3.8 quarts of oil, while the 2.0L four-cylinder engine needs 4.2 quarts. Both engines use SAE 5W-20 oil, and Kia advises switching to synthetic oil whenever it's time for an oil change. There are two main types of oil: conventional, which is petroleum-based and older, and synthetic, a newer type designed to provide better protection and a longer lifespan than conventional oil. Synthetic oil only needs to be changed every 7,500 miles, compared to every 3,500 to 5,000 miles for conventional oil. I suggest checking your oil monthly to ensure there are no issues or debris present.
My Kia Soul uses 5W30 oil, and this information is clearly indicated on the oil cap.
The 2018 Kia Soul runs on synthetic blend oil. The smaller 1.6L 4-cylinder engine needs SAE 5W-20 oil and can hold 3.8 quarts. The larger 2.0L 4-cylinder engine uses SAE 5W-20 oil and has a 4.2-quart capacity.
If the cap indicates 5W30, it is the incorrect cap for the engine, which requires 5W20.
Why are they insisting on using full synthetic oil? I drive a 2018 Kia Soul Base with 47000 miles on it. Should I switch to full synthetic oil at this point?
My car uses 5w 20 oil, and it is clearly marked on the oil cap.
My Kia's cap indicates that it should use 5w20 oil, but the Kia dealership used 5w30 and poured in 5 quarts during the oil change. I am heading to the Kia manufacturer for accurate information. I have mechanical knowledge and experience, so it is puzzling when the manufacturer and their representatives provide conflicting information about the oil that the car needs.
