To change the headlight bulb on a 2001 Dodge Dakota, you should first disconnect the electrical connection by reaching behind the headlight from inside the engine compartment. Then, rotate the plastic lock ring counterclockwise about 1/4 of a turn, and slide it off the back of the bulb. Next, pull the bulb straight out while making sure the notches on the bulb align with the headlight slots for a proper fit. Remember to position the catch for the electrical connector facing upwards. The lock ring has three slots that need to be aligned before turning it about a quarter turn clockwise and reconnecting the wiring harness. You may need to remove the air duct on the passenger side to access the bulb.
