The key fob for the 2015 Subaru Forester operates on an A3volt lithium CR1620 battery. Although this battery shares the same voltage as the more common CR2032, it differs in size. The CR1620 is 16mm wide and 2.0mm thick, while the CR2032 is 20mm wide and 3.2mm thick. Due to these differences, the two batteries are not interchangeable. Attempting to use a CR2032 in place of a CR1620 may not allow the key fob to close properly. However, you can use spare CR2032 batteries to test if the key fob's dead battery is the issue. Typically, these batteries last three to four years before needing replacement, and you can buy a pack of ten for less than five dollars.
