In order to properly maintain your 2016 Toyota Highlander, it is recommended to only use Toyota super long life coolant. Alternatively, you may use a high-quality ethylene glycol based coolant that is non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrate, and non-borate. The Toyota coolant should be a 50% blend of coolant and deionized water. This coolant not only prevents the engine from freezing in extreme cold temperatures, but also provides lubrication for the water pump. It is important to regularly check the coolant level, ideally once a month. If the level is below the minimum recommended amount, add more until it is within the proper range. If you live in a colder climate, be sure to test the fluid concentration before winter arrives to prevent freezing issues that could damage the engine.
The 2016 Toyota Highlander is equipped with a red/pink, extended-life oat coolant specifically designed for Asian vehicle radiators.
