In the Chevy Tahoe, a common cause of the P0420 trouble code is a faulty oxygen sensor, but there could be other reasons too. The code signifies that the Catalytic System Efficiency is Below Threshold. Your Tahoe is equipped with at least two oxygen sensors, with one located before and one after the catalytic converter. These sensors play a crucial role in monitoring emission levels entering and exiting the converter. If the data from both sensors is similar, the vehicle will activate the service engine soon light, indicating the P0420 code is triggered primarily by the upstream sensor (before the converter). Usually, there are no noticeable performance issues associated with P0420. For many people, the first indication of any problem is when the service engine soon light illuminates.
I swapped out the oxygen sensors and purchased a fresh air filter, cleaned the nearby sensor, but the issue persists with two trouble codes - specifically, P0420.
If you see a p0420 code pop up on your Chevy Tahoe, it indicates that either the oxygen/O2 sensor is busted or faulty. Alternatively, it could mean that the downstream oxygen sensor (HO2S) has been damaged or not connected correctly.
