In a 2015 Chevy Equinox, you can find the camshaft position sensor situated on the right side of the engine near the back of the valve cover, close to the intake manifold. This sensor plays a crucial role in determining the camshaft's position in relation to the crankshaft. The information gathered is then relayed to the powertrain control module (PCM) for managing the fuel injector and ignition system. When the camshaft position sensor begins to have issues and loses effectiveness, the signal it sends to the car's computer weakens. Eventually, this signal weakens to the point where the car won't start due to a lack of ignition spark.

At the top of the engine block on the passenger side, in the vicinity of the coils, there is a bolt with a 10-millimeter size securing it in place. Take caution as the new bolts are of Chinese make and can break with just around 3 pounds of force. It can lead to a laborious and frustrating process of re-tapping or using helicoils. The intake is positioned close by, with the exhaust at the back. To begin replacement, first remove the oil fill lid and loosen the clamps on the 5/16 air duct hose (there are two in total). Then, carefully lift off the plastic covers with a back and forth motion; they are attached using a slip shaft mechanism, not bolts. While working, remember to place something in any empty holes left by removed components, such as the air intake and sensors. Keep the inside of the engine clean to prevent any potential hazards.
