In the 2005 Chevy Colorado, there are dual camshaft position sensors situated at the front of the engine above the serpentine belt. Positioned on the engine's left side is CMP Sensor 1, while on the right side is CMP Sensor 2. These sensors are secured to the engine using a 10-millimeter bolt, and prior to removal, an electrical connector must be disconnected. These sensors play a crucial role in monitoring the intake and exhaust valves' positions, allowing the engine control system to accurately determine the crankshaft drive's precise location. This data is vital for determining the timing of fuel injection into the cylinder and the ignition of the fuel by the spark plugs. If these sensors malfunction, it can impact the engine's performance adversely.
Can these components be switched out with each other? Or is one specifically designed for exhaust and the other for intake?
The camshaft position sensor can be found in the upper front part of the engine, just beneath the timing cover.
