The coolant temperature sensor in a 2008 Dodge Avenger is located on the back of the head, specifically on the left side of the engine. If this sensor malfunctions, it could relay incorrect information to the computer, affecting fuel and timing calculations. It's not unusual for the coolant temperature sensor to stop working properly, causing it to constantly signal that the engine is cold. Signs that this sensor is faulty include the check engine light coming on, decreased engine performance, overheating, difficulty starting the engine, and the electric cooling fans failing to kick in.
