The 2004 Chevy Silverado EVAP system includes an Evaporative Emission Control Canister positioned at the front of the fuel tank. This canister contains activated charcoal that absorbs fuel vapors, which are then released when the purge valve opens, directing the vapors into the intake manifold. The canister is also connected to the fuel tank, the EVAP vent solenoid, and the EVAP purge solenoid via vent lines. Typically, the purge solenoid remains closed while the vent solenoid is open. The purge valve is situated along the vent line that leads to the purge solenoid. While issues with the EVAP system often stem from problems with the valves, it is important to note that the canister can also develop cracks or blockages. In some cases, fuel may even enter the canister if there is a malfunction elsewhere in the system.
