The knock sensor on the 2001 Toyota Solara is situated at the back of the engine, on the right side of the exhaust pipe and directly under the intake manifold. Signs of a malfunctioning knock sensor include the check engine light illuminating and the engine running roughly. If you choose to have it replaced at a shop, expect labor costs around $300, but it's also a task that you can easily do yourself. Start by raising the front end of your Solara and disconnecting the battery. Crawl under your vehicle and unplug the wiring harness connected to the knock sensor.
