The speed sensor in a Ford Transit Connect is located on the transaxle. Its function is to measure the rotational speed and transmit this data to the van's ECU, which then calculates and displays the vehicle speed in miles per hour on the speedometer. If the sensor malfunctions, it can result in incorrect speed readings on the speedometer. Typically, the check engine light will also illuminate when the ECU identifies a problem due to receiving an unreliable signal. If you observe signs of failure in the sensor, it is advisable to replace it as repairing or rebuilding it effectively is not feasible.
